Santiago 1/16th scale 1963 Impala Low Rod He scratch built. He started with the frame pan core support firewall interior and trunk kit . This was a 1:18th scale R/C Body I used from a “Hopp’n Hydros” toy by Lindbergh Hawk Model Company. The motor trans and intake with carbs are from the Revell 1/16th scale 1934 coupe kit and the reared is from the Revell 1/16th scale Phantom Kit and I modified it to fit my scratch built frame. The rims and tires are from a 1:18th scale DieCast car I got from my Club Prez of MCBA Anthony Rios aka “ Mr. Biggs” . The dash center console door panels and rear panels headliner all scratch built and opened the glove box and center console lid for a realistic look. Also added a pioneer flip up t.v. Head unite with remote control and it pull out flips up and closes just like the real one. Working front and rear suspension and opened the gas tank door and scratch built the chrome trim to add a classic impala look. 1984 corvette radiator with fan and shield from the Revell 1/16th scale kit from my parts box. Mr. Biggs Painted Candy Raven Black for me as I was laid up in bed from a bad car accident a month after Santiago started to scratch build this impala. He chose a fire engine red interior motor trans and trunk with polished aluminum and chrome trim to finish it off with the Low Rod stance. Opened the hood with working hinges and pop up spring for the realistic look. Hand formed headers and aluminum exhaust with chrome mufflers. Plumbed and wired the motor. He added photo etched “Super Sport” on the rear side trims. This build took me 11 months with the help of my father “Big Jim Hernandez “ who was my inspiration for building this impala. He helped me scale it out from original blueprints off the internet. I call this build “3 the hard way” as Biggs mentioned to me “ 3 years of planning this build Santi! That’s what you should call it!” Our V Prez “Roger Chavez” said it was the best scratch build he has seen from our club brothers! May He Rest In Peace. Hope you all like this build. Mr.1/16th Santiago from San Diego
